10 Best EZ Curl Bars in 2020 (Review)
For generations, health and fitness enthusiasts did their strength training with straight bars that put a lot of strain on their wrists rather than their shoulders and biceps as desired. Fortunately, the EZ curl, with its uniquely angled design, came along and is now one of the most popular pieces of equipment for arm exercises.
Unfortunately, their popularity has also led to a flooded market—and not all the options available on the market are quality bars. To help you find the perfect curl bar for your personal health, fitness, and weight goals, we have reviewed the best EZ curl bars in 2020 and discuss why they’re considered the best (and which one might be the best for you):

The Best EZ Curl Bars
1. CAP Barbell Olympic Super EZ Curl Bar
The first noticeable thing about the CAP Barbell Olympic Super Curl Bar is the severe angles compared to other EZ curl bars, which provide a lot of options. This bar is perfect whether you’re working on preacher curls or skull crushers, providing solid angles for your favorite upper arm workout.
The CAP Barbell Olympic Super Curl Bar comes with rotating sleeves, which put less pressure on the wrists, allowing the Olympic plates to move freely and helping you avoid stress or injury to your wrists or elbows. The CAP Barbell also comes with diamond knurl on the grips to help you get a better grip when curling, though a rubberized grip might be better.
The CAP Barbell bar is made out of 51,000 tensile strength solid steel with a chrome finish to help prevent rusting. It is one of the best bars on the market, versatile enough for a variety of workouts.
2. Champion Barbell Chrome EZ Curl Bar
The Champion Barbell Chrome EZ Curl Bar is an excellent choice for those who don’t want to spend a lot on a piece of equipment but still prefer the comfort of an EZ Curl Bar over a straight bar. However, note that this bar doesn’t come standard with collars—you have to purchase those separately. You can find them at a fairly reasonable price, though, and they’re not hard to find.
The Champion Barbell Chrome EZ Curl Bar is a reliable standard 1-inch bar that comes in at an affordable price point. It provides excellent, deep knurling and solid grip with limited slippage. Champion created it with a single piece of steel, rated to carry up to 160 pounds.
The smoother angles may not be for everyone. However, if you’re looking for something without the more standard sharp angles, this still provides a more comfortable grip at a reasonable price.
3. CAP Barbell 47-Inch Threaded Easy EZ Curl Bar
When considering EZ curl bars, it’s a good idea to look at the knurl on the handles to make sure the design accommodates your hand placement. In the case of the CAP Barbell 47-inch standard curl bar, however, there isn’t a need to check as the knurling continues throughout most of the 1-inch threaded curl bar. Wherever you get the most comfortable grip, you won’t need to worry about your hands slipping.
The angles of the CAP Barbell 47-Inch Threaded Easy Curl Bar aren’t as intense as other EZ bars, but you’ll still find it works well to improve your strength training while protecting your joints. The CAP Standard 1-inch curl bar comes with a recommended weight capacity of 200 pounds, but watch the threading as users report the collars don’t keep the weight plates as stable as they should.
The bar weighs about ten and a half pounds with the collars included and is coated in a chrome finish, making it a great addition to your home gym.
4. Body-Solid OB47B
On the other end of the budget spectrum is the Body-Solid OB47B Tools Olympic Curl Bar. As you might have guessed, this is an Olympic bar suitable for two-inch Olympic plates, which is why it’s longer than many of the others we’ve reviewed. It is also more expensive than most standard bars but built for more weight and more strenuous activity with a max weight capacity of 300 pounds.
The Body-Solid Tools Olympic Curl Bar weighs almost 18 pounds with the collars attached, making it one of the heftier weight lifting curl bars available for home use. Deep knurls line much of the bar for more choice of hand position, and it has good angles to help exercise the biceps rather than your wrists and elbows.
The Body Solid Tools Olympic Bar comes in either black or chrome, with no material difference between the two. Unfortunately, some customers report that the black version is more prone to rust.
5. Elevens Olympic Curl Bar
With a 18-pound bar weight, the Elevens Olympic Curl Bar has the heft to support up to 300 pounds. It is coated in a super durable black manganese powder to help prevent corrosion. The angles and deep knurls provide more options than usual for grip positions while doing a bar or preacher curl, making this bar the perfect piece to add to your home gym.
The best thing about the Eleven Olympic EZ Curl Bar is that it offers the option of buying a weight set rather than purchasing the Olympic plates separately, like most other bars. When you buy as a set, you take all the guesswork out of the components and can customize it with your favorite routine in mind.
Even better, the weights that come in the Eleven sets also work with all standard Olympic bars, including barbells, dumbbells, weight bars, and more.
6. CAP Barbell Olympic EZ Curl Bar
We’ve already mentioned the CAP Olympic Super Curl. This weight bar is similar in many ways but adds a few unique options, like a slightly shortened length and additional weight. The CAP Barbell Olympic EZ Curl Bar weighs a respectable 15.5 pounds on its own, without collars or weights added. Rotating sleeves help keep your weight load steady and balanced as you do your favorite bicep curls.
The CAP Barbell Olympic EZ Curl Bar is liberally knurled all along the angled length, providing abundant places to get a grip where you feel most comfortable. It also comes in two different finish options, from solid chrome to black powder coat, depending on your personal aesthetic preference.
The angles on the CAP EZ Curl aren’t as severe as those seen on the Super Curl bar, but they still provide excellent hand placement for comfortable lifts. CAP forged this bar out of durable steel and included both collars with easy-to-replace T-screws for quickly adding weights.
7. Apex Marcy Triceps and Biceps Combo Curl Bar
The Apex Marcy Triceps and Biceps Combo Curl Bar is another terrific standard gauge EZ curl bar with a low price point, making it ideal for weightlifters who don’t want to break their budget.
Apex constructed this bar out of high-quality steel, with sharp angles for a variety of grip positions. Unfortunately, the knurls don’t extend throughout the bar, making it more slippery than many of its competitors.
The Apex Marcy Combo Curl Bar uses the standard weight plates for a curl bar on a threaded post secured with a spinlock, which means you have to unthread the lock before swapping out loads. Swapping out standard plates can be time-consuming, so if you are someone who prefers to throw on new weights quickly, this might not be your best option.
Thanks to its ergonomic design, high angles, and a smooth chrome finish, this bar feels comfortable for a range of grip positions. You’ll get plenty of variety in workout positions without risking injury.
8. Sunny Health & Fitness STCB-47
While the angles on this weight bar aren’t as steep as some of the others, the 47-inch length of the Sunny Health & Fitness STCB-47 Curl Bar makes it ideal for taller lifters with longer reach who aren’t satisfied with other bars. The knurling on the handles has deeper grooves and works well to improve grip and extends wide enough along the bar for people with long arms.
The Sunny Health & Fitness STCB-47 works with Olympic-style weights, making all curls such as bar curls or skull crushers easier with rotating cuffs. Unfortunately, some users feel that the chrome finish on the sleeves makes them slippery, so you may want to invest in some collars to help further secure the weights.
Titan makes these curl bars out of high-quality material with a beautiful polished chrome finish that will help anyone build the sort of upper body mass they want, and the length of the bar also makes it great to bench press.
9. CAP Barbell 47-Inch Solid E-Z Curl Bar
Last but not least in our curl bar reviews, the CAP Barbell 47-Inch Standard Solid EZ Curl Bar is very much like the standard bar listed above, only, in this case, it’s not threaded and is powder-coated an attractive black to help prevent rusting and corrosion.
The CAP Barbell 47-Inch Solid E-Z Curl Bar has much less of a pronounced angle, making it much more like a straight bar, but with enough variation to still help prevent strain on your elbows and wrists while transferring the load directly to your shoulders and biceps.
This weight bar uses standard weight plates and has excellent knurling along most of the shaft, allowing for a great deal of variation in where you grip. The bar doesn’t include spring clips for weight plates, and some customers report that regular spring clips don’t fit properly. You may need to experiment or ask customer service for tips on the best clips.
10. XMark Fitness Olympic Curl Bar
The XMark Fitness Olympic Curl Bar is another one of the best EZ curl bars we’ve seen that, like the XMark 3675, permits you to buy the bar as a full weight set along with the plates and collars in a variety of packages.
The XMark Fitness Olympic Curl Bar is designed for Olympic weights and comes with chrome-plated sleeves, while the shaft is powder-coated with durable black manganese phosphate to help resist rust and corrosion. This can come in handy when you’re looking at longevity of the product.
Under the powder coating, of course, is steel, which holds up to 400 pounds. This unit comes with knurling along the shaft, with angles slightly flattened compared to the XMark 3675. It’s also longer overall, making it perfect for bench presses and taller weightlifters.
